| Many people in various fields of endeavor are becoming increasingly aware of the term "Terahertz". Indeed the expression has seen a definite increase in usage in the last several years. This is due, in large part, to the various advances in electromagnetic research which have precipitated the transition of Terahertz technology from the realm of basic conceptual research - firmly into the realm of advanced applications research and development techniques which are now in development worldwide. Terahertz indicates the frequency band on the EM spectrum which occupies the range of the 12th power of 10 hertz. This is the EM frequency range which falls between waves which are classified as light and those which constitute electrical energy. This terahertz wave band is receiving a great deal of attention due to new radiation techniques as well as hypersensitive detection devices which have been made into reality owing, in part, to remarkable advancements in quantum electronics and semiconductor technology. |
